Royal Palace of Gödöllő — The Baroque Jewel of Hungarian History
The Royal Palace of Gödöllő is a breathtaking masterpiece of Baroque architecture and one of Hungary’s most iconic historical landmarks. Once the beloved retreat of Queen Elisabeth of Hungary (Sisi), the palace enchants visitors with its opulent interiors, vast romantic gardens, and timeless elegance. Its rich royal heritage and beautifully preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Hungary’s past, making it a must-visit for history and architecture lovers alike — a perfect day trip to experience a piece of Hungarian heritage.
Basilica of the Assumption in Máriabesnyő
Máriabesnyő is a renowned Marian pilgrimage site, remarkable for its unique two-level church with two altars and two sacred statues. Here you’ll find Hungary’s smallest — and miracle-associated — statue of the Virgin Mary. In the crypt lies the Grassalkovich family’s tomb, one of the most beautiful Baroque burial monuments in Hungary.
Babati Stable Castle
Queen Elisabeth (Sisi) loved the forests around Gödöllő and often visited Babat, a picturesque area near the town. During her walks, she frequently stopped by the stable castle built by Antal Grassalkovich. One of her favorite oak trees also stood nearby.
Lázár Equestrian Park
Located just 5 km from Gödöllő in Domonyvölgy, this charming park is both a leisure and event destination. It offers traditional Hungarian horse shows, carriage rides through the forest, pony rides, a petting zoo, and hearty Hungarian cuisine. Set in a 9-hectare park created by world-champion carriage drivers, it’s also an unforgettable venue for weddings and corporate events.
BOTANIQ Castle of Tura
This fairy-tale castle captivates not only with its neo-Renaissance and neo-Baroque elements but also with the romantic love story behind its creation. Baron Zsigmond Schossberger, a grain magnate, built it for his wife, Teréz Mayer von Gunthof.
For over half a century, the family used the castle — first as a summer residence, later as their permanent home. After a turbulent history, the estate was fully restored starting in 2016. The careful renovation included strengthening and rebuilding the roof, restoring floors, windows, and doors, and preserving intricate stone, plaster, wall paintings, and woodwork.
Today, BOTANIQ Castle is a luxurious castle hotel and a truly unique jewel among Hungary’s event and wedding venues.
